Indications

Analgin tablets are administered for the treatment of pains of various origin: toothache, headache, arthralgia, neuralgia, myalgia, milder visceral pains, dysmenorrhea, as an antipyretic in the complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of upper respiratory tract, infectious diseases. Analgin solution for injection is used in cases of acute and severe pain after surgical operations or traumas; pains due to tumors; renal and biliary colics and high temperature unaffected by other drugs.

 

Warning and precautions

It should not be used in the following situations:

If you are allergic to metamizole or another similar medicine: phenylbutazone, phenazone, propiphenazon. Allergy symptoms include: skin rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing. If you notice any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

If you have trouble breathing (such as asthma). This medicine may narrow the bronchi and make it harder to breathe.

If you have damage to the bone marrow. As we have already said, metamizol can cause dangerous agranulocytosis, which occurs more frequently in these patients.

If you have a certain genetic conditions, such as lack of certain enzymes (eg, glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase).

Metamizol should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.

If you have anemia.

If you have liver or kidney damage.

If you have an ulcer in the stomach or duodenum.

If you have cardiovascular disease (increased or decreased blood pressure, angina pectoris, heart failure, history of myocardial infarction or stroke).

Do not apply tobacco and alcohol while you are on therapy with metamizole, because of the increased risk of side effects. Metamizol can not be used in children younger than 18 years. Again, we note that metamizol can cause very dangerous agranulocytosis (heavy reduction in the number of leukocytes). White blood cells are vital part of ours immune system. When white blood cells fall down to a dangerous level, then immune system fall down too. Our body is unable to fight off infections and death could happen! If you notice symptoms that are typical for the flu such as fever, sore throat, and others you should contact your doctor because it may be a sign that agranulocytosis have appeared.

Use of metamizol during pregnancy and lactation

Metamizol should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the first 12 weeks and last 12 weeks. Metamizol may damage unborn baby. Metamizol should not be used during the breast-feeding, because metamizol passes from the mother’s blood into milk and may harm the baby. Avoid breast-feeding while you are using metamizole. After you stop using the medicine, it takes at least two days, to set off again to breastfeed.

 

Dosage 

The dose of metamizol depends on the severity of the condition. Metamizol is usually used in a dosage of 500 mg-1000 mg, up to 4 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 5000 mg! You should not exceed this dose! The effect of metamizol occurs after half an hour. It is not recommended to use metamizol longer than 5 days.

 

Overdose

If you take more metamizol than you should, contact your doctor. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, fainting, heart rate disturbance, kidney damage, and others.

Use with other medicines (Interactions)

Tell your doctor if you are using the following medications:

Medicines used in the treatment of infections, called antibiotics such as penicillin

Medicines used in the treatment of diabetes: metformin, glimepiride, gliclazide, glipizide.

Medicines used in the treatment of coagulation disorders: warfarin (Farin), heparin, nadroparin (Fraxiparin).

Corticosteroids such as prednisone, methyl prednisolone, dexamethasone.

Methotrexate used in the treatment of breast cancer.

Simultaneous use of metamizol with these medicines can cause side effects.
